Silk first reached Europe around the 1st century BCE. At that time, it arrived in the Roman Empire as an exceptionally luxurious commodity imported from China through the vast network of trade routes that would later become known as the Silk Road.

grade
Grade measures the quality of the raw silk fibers. It evaluates the silk fibers’ length, strength, uniformity, purity, and the richness of their natural color and sheen.
Silk grades range from 1A to 6A. Grade 6A represents the highest quality silk available on the market — made from the longest and strongest continuous fibers, with a natural pearly-white tone, free from impurities, and distinguished for its elegant, natural sheen.
Thanks to their exceptional length and uniformity, the fibers require fewer joins, creating an extraordinarily smooth and refined fabric. The result is silk that feels luxuriously soft and gentle against the skin and hair while maintaining its strength and natural sheen over time.
Lower grades of silk (B–F and ungraded fibres) are of poor quality and are typically used for decorative purposes such as curtains or rugs.
